World of Warcraft ultimately led to World of Warcraft , but more than 15 years of constant story-telling and world-building in WoW has made some of the older content outdated. Blizzard intends to rectify that with the forthcoming Reforged remake of World of Warcraft, by making some of the older content updated to reflect the world as it is today.

"This is an edition that has been reforged. We're taking a look at the campaign in general as well as The Culling in particular," Brian Sousa, Art Lead on Classic Games at Blizzard said to P2Pah. "We totally redesigned the layout of the map and made it look and feel like Stratholme in World of Warcraft because people have been to Stratholme and know the entrance to Stratholme and the original did not have the aforementioned. It had a completely different impression altogether. It was a place with Greek columns and bizarre statues, rivers, and the Zoo, and other things that would be difficult to recognize if you came playing World of Warcraft playing this game.

"That is one thing. We're thinking, 'Well, this could be like WOW WoTLK Classic Gold and so it was redesigned to reflect this. As we progress through the course of the campaign, there's likely to be more instances when we'll be relying on World of Warcraft for influence because they've got the lore, they've grounded all these characters, all of these places, and they've incorporated an entire backstory to everything. We have a massive library of material to draw from."
